Due to her interest in and love for science, Dr. Starbird has developed a long-standing interest in how we support the people doing research. Dr. Starbird believes that by creating environments of complete support, we can encourage the brightest minds to tackle the hardest questions and problems facing our society in a way that benefits all. Importantly, in order to know the most important research questions we must have participation in the laboratory that reflects our world population, and as such, Dr. Starbird has worked to support inclusive mentoring practices and to foster communities that are diverse, equitable, and inclusive in science. The Starbird Lab is an inclusive and supportive lab space where all are welcome and where we regularly hold lab meetings to discuss topics related to fostering inclusive spaces in science.
The Starbird Lab Compact
This document is meant to serve as a contract between Dr. Starbird as the investigator, and members of the lab. It defines expectations for what lab members can expect from Dr. Starbird as a mentor; and what she and other lab members will expect from one another. This document reflects the values of the lab and is meant to make life in the lab one where everyone can thrive.
